From Trafficked Child to Master Carpenter: The Inspiring Journey of Robert Tetteh

Robert Tetteh’s life story is one of resilience, healing, and hope. At a very young age, Robert was trafficked to Krachi-Mogyadur in Ghana’s Oti Region, where he was compelled to work as a child fisherman on Lake Volta. Deprived of his childhood and separated from his family, he spent several years in exploitative conditions that no child should ever endure.

Throughout this period, Robert lived with confusion and emotional pain, repeatedly reminded of a supposed transaction that had placed him in exploitation. Cut off from his mother and denied the safety and care every child deserves, his future seemed uncertain.

In 2018, at the age of 14, Robert’s life took a turning point when he was rescued and admitted to the Challenging Heights Recovery Centre. There, he received care, counseling, and rehabilitation that supported his healing and helped him rebuild confidence and hope. After two years of recovery, Robert was successfully reintegrated with his family in Senya in 2020 and enrolled in a carpentry apprenticeship in Winneba.

Over the next five years, Robert dedicated himself fully to learning his trade. Through discipline, humility, and perseverance, he steadily developed his skills and earned the respect of his mentors and peers. On Saturday, 9 August 2025, Robert achieved a major milestone when he graduated and was officially recognized as a master carpenter.

Today, Robert and his family express deep gratitude to Challenging Heights and his apprenticeship master for the guidance and support that helped transform his life. His journey from exploitation to professional success demonstrates the power of protection, rehabilitation, and opportunity, and stands as a compelling reminder of what is possible when children are given a second chance.
