Trafficking impacts children and their families on an individual level, but in many of Ghana’s coastal communities, it has become a widespread and persistent challenge. In response, Challenging Heights continues to explore community-based approaches that address the root causes of child trafficking while engaging young people in positive activities.
One such approach uses football as a tool to bring communities together and create opportunities for dialogue on child protection. Through organised matches and outreach activities, children and community members are engaged in discussions about children’s rights, the dangers of trafficking, and the shared responsibility of protecting children.
Football provides a platform that encourages teamwork, discipline, and participation, while also serving as an entry point for education and awareness. By involving parents, local leaders, and youth, these activities help strengthen community commitment to preventing child trafficking.
Challenging Heights believes that sustainable change requires collective action, and that when communities are informed and engaged, they are better positioned to protect their children and promote safer futures.
