Volunteering with Challenging Heights

A meaningful experience

Share your expertise where it matters most

Are you looking for a meaningful volunteer experience overseas? As a local, grassroots NGO in Ghana, the expertise and experience that volunteers bring can be enormously helpful in building our capacity.

We recognise the value of internships not only as a learning opportunity for our interns, but also as a chance for us to help create the next generation of leaders in the anti-slavery world. International internships are also increasingly a valued part of a well-rounded resume or CV.

Applications are rolling and based on the needs of the organisation. As our needs change over time, the opportunities listed below are examples of the kinds of roles we look for.

Volunteer opportunities

Where you can make a difference

These are examples of the roles we frequently need. Even if your skills are not listed here, we welcome proposals — get in touch and tell us how you would like to contribute.

Economic Development

Use data to advise Challenging Heights and community members on local economic needs, cooperative development, and community-scale sustainability to prevent child trafficking.

Psychologist / Social Worker

With a minimum MPhil in Psychology or Social Work, review and develop assessment tools, train caseworkers, and establish systems for supporting children from arrival to reintegration.

Monitoring & Evaluation Expert

Train management on best practices for improving organisational effectiveness through robust data-harvesting systems and tools.

Teacher Trainers

Our school, Odobirba Academy, seeks volunteer teacher trainers, mentors, and volunteers who can produce high-quality training content.

Librarians

Support our 50-seat library: guide children in reading, shelve books, teach shelving, and help children register as members and borrow books.

English, Maths & Science Teachers

Teach our elementary school children, whose educational levels are equivalent to pre-high-school adolescents, in core academic subjects.

Musicians

Help roll out music programmes for over 1,000 school children: voice trainers, choir directors, music teachers, pianists, guitarists, and other instrumentalists.

Dramatists

Use local content to teach, train, and direct children in drama performances that build confidence and convey important messages.

Sports Coaches

Coach soccer, volleyball, tennis, Tae Kwon Do, athletics, and more — from school teams to divisional football. Coaches for all ages are welcome, as are small volunteer groups.

Research

Design and conduct an intensive research project with our staff or in the field. While we have specific research needs, we welcome proposals from all.

Partnerships & Fundraising

Cultivate partnerships in Ghana and abroad, contribute to fundraising proposals, design fundraising tools, and help set up online fundraising programmes.

Reading Tutor / After-School Coach

Work as a reading and literacy tutor for small groups at the library, organise indoor and outdoor play, and facilitate child rights clubs after school.

Human Resources

Provide human resource or secretarial support and help with the organisation’s HR activities.

Advocacy

Assist our communications and advocacy programme by researching, writing policy papers, and meeting with key stakeholders.
