What transformation means
Recovery from exploitation requires long-term care, empowerment, and genuine opportunities for independence. Challenging Heights supports survivors as they rebuild their lives through comprehensive programmes focused on healing, education, and skills development.
Education plays a critical role in this process. To date, Challenging Heights has supported 8,805 children through access to quality basic and vocational education. The Challenging Heights School provides low-cost basic education to children from vulnerable communities, while a dedicated school at the recovery centre supports rescued children as they rebuild foundational learning skills.
Vocational training programmes provide further pathways to independence, particularly for young women and girls affected by trafficking, early marriage, and gender-based violence.
By supporting recovery and expanding access to education and skills training, Challenging Heights helps young people move beyond exploitation and build genuinely independent futures.
The Recovery Centre
At the Challenging Heights Recovery Centre — the largest recovery centre for survivors of trafficking and exploitation in Ghana — young people receive comprehensive, trauma-informed support. Here, survivors stabilise, recover, and begin to reclaim their futures in a safe and nurturing environment.

How transformation happens
Trauma-informed care, healthcare, and psychosocial support help survivors stabilise and begin to heal from the harms of exploitation, restoring a sense of safety and self-worth.
Through the Challenging Heights School and the recovery centre school, children rebuild foundational learning skills and access quality basic education — opening doors that exploitation had closed.
Skills training in trades such as fashion design, cosmetology, phone repair, and tiling provides survivors — especially young women and girls — with practical pathways to stable employment and entrepreneurship.
Skills for independence
Vocational training is particularly transformative for young women and girls affected by trafficking, early marriage, and gender-based violence — equipping them with the skills to earn a living and shape their own futures.
