Who we are

Children deserve safety, opportunity, and the freedom to build their futures

Challenging Heights rescues young people from trafficking and economic exploitation, provides long-term survivor support, and partners with communities — from the grassroots to the national level — to prevent exploitation before it begins.

Founded in 2005 by a survivor of child labour, our work is rooted in lived experience and driven by an unshakeable belief that every child in Ghana deserves a safe and dignified childhood.

When livelihoods collapse, children become vulnerable

In fishing and farming communities across Ghana, systemic failures and environmental pollution are disrupting traditional livelihoods. As families lose reliable sources of income, economic instability deepens — and for many households, these pressures lead to internal displacement and heightened vulnerability to trafficking and exploitation.

Challenging Heights rescues young people from trafficking and economic exploitation, provides long-term survivor support, and partners with communities — from the grassroots to the national level — to prevent exploitation before it begins.

Rescue

Children trapped in trafficking and forced labour are identified and safely rescued. At our recovery centre, young people receive immediate care, stability, and the holistic support they need to begin healing. Rescue is the first step toward restoring safety and possibility.

Transformation

Recovery does not happen overnight. Survivors receive long-term support through education, mentorship, and vocational training so they can rebuild confidence, independence, and hope for their futures. With the right opportunities, young people reclaim their dreams and pursue their aspirations.

Prevention

Lasting protection requires strong families and resilient communities. Challenging Heights works alongside families, community leaders, and local and national institutions to strengthen economic stability and child protection systems. When communities are empowered, cycles of exploitation are interrupted for good.
