It was early evening when the Challenging Heights Rescue Team stepped off the bus in Yeji, a major fishing hub in Ghana known for high incidences of child trafficking. Despite the long journey, the team had little time to rest, as rescue operations were set to begin almost immediately.
The team’s mission was to locate and secure the safety of children believed to be working under exploitative conditions on Lake Volta. Working in collaboration with local authorities and community informants, the rescue effort required careful coordination, discretion, and a deep understanding of the trafficking networks in the area.
Each operation is guided by detailed intelligence and prioritizes the safety of the children, the rescue team, and all community members involved. Once rescued, children are transported to Challenging Heights’ Hovde House rehabilitation shelter, where they receive medical care, emotional support, education, and preparation for reintegration with their families.
The arrival in Yeji marked another critical step in Challenging Heights’ ongoing commitment to ending child trafficking and ensuring that vulnerable children are given the chance to live freely, safely, and with dignity.
