Child Labour in Cocoa Project (2009)
The Child Labour in Cocoa Project was one of the first large-scale projects initiated by Challenging Heights. It was a collaboration between Challenging Heights and the National Program for the Elimination of Child Labour in Cocoa (NPECLC) in the two districts Agona West Municipality and the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District. 20 Community Child Protection Committees (CCPCs) were trained in 20 different communities to fight child labour and organize community action planning and implementation of strategies to curb child labour in the cocoa industry. Also, 15 Child Development Clubs (CDC) were created with an average of 20 child members. Part of the project was also the immediate rescue of 240 most vulnerable children who were engaged in the worst forms of child labour.
