Commemoration of World Day Against Trafficking in Persons 2024....

Challenging Heights in collaboration with the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of the Ghana Police Service and the Ekumfi District Directorate of the Department of Social Welfare, marked this year's World Day against Trafficking in Persons at Ekumpuanu in the Ekumfi District of the Central Region focusing on the theme for this year’s celebration “Leave no child behind in the fight against trafficking in persons.”

Speaking at the event, The Director in Charge of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, DSP William Ayariga, stressed the need for collaborative efforts by state institutions and civil society organizations to put their resources together in the fight against human trafficking, which is a menace to the society. He used the opportunity to educate the audience and the general public about the new trends in human trafficking across national borders, which involves the harvesting of human organs by some travel agencies under the disguise of seeking greener pastures elsewhere, especially in the Gulf states.

Mr. Enock Dery Pufaa, The Programs Director of Challenging Heights, also seized the opportunity to talk about Challenging Heights’s efforts in minimizing child trafficking in Ghana, especially on Lake Volta. He stated how Challenging Heights has contributed to the rescued and recovery of about 2,000 survivors from child trafficking and the worst forms of child labor since 2005.

The Queen Mother of Ekumfi Traditional Area, Nana Benyinwaa, who happened to be the chairperson for the event, asserted the support of traditional rulers for the fight against human trafficking and assured the gathering that the rights of children within the Ekumfi District will be protected as far as traditional rulers are concerned.

The audience present at the event was entertained and educated through amazing poetry and drama performances by students of Challenging Heights’ Child Rights Club. At the end of all presentations by the chairperson and the other dignitaries, there was a panel discussion session which created an  opportunity for participants to ask questions, which the panel members addressed. We at Challenging Heights express our profound gratitude to everyone who participated in making the events a success, especially the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Ghana Police Service, the Department of Social Welfare Officers at Ekumfi, partner NGOS and the traditional and religious leaders of Ekumpuano. We promise on this important day to keep up the battle against child trafficking in Ghana and to defend the rights of children.
