At Challenging Heights, we believe that those who have lived through hardship often become the most powerful voices for change. On this International Youth Day 2025, our spotlight is on Sammy’s journey, a shining example of this truth.

Sammy is a vibrant young man who once lived at our Recovery Center after being rescued from child trafficking on Lake Volta. His early years were marked by hardship, exploitation, and the struggle to survive. But with care, counseling, and support, Sammy rebuilt his life and today, he is changing the lives of others.

Now, Sammy is an advocate for children’s rights and a voice for young people who have endured trafficking, child labour, and abuse. Working as a caretaker at the Recovery Center, he gives back every day — guiding, comforting, and inspiring children who are walking the same path he once did.

“The greatest battle for trafficked children isn’t being trafficked, but the crushing fear, pain, isolation, and hunger,” Sammy says. “Many hide their pain just to survive. But after rescue, the fear fades — because they become free, just like a bird. And when we treat them with respect and make them feel safe, we ignite their strength and confidence all over again.”

Today, we celebrate the resilience of Sammy and all our beneficiaries. Their courage reminds us why our mission matters: to protect the rights of every child, until all are respected, safe, and free.
