Challenging Heights Participates in African Union Free Movement Protocol Advocacy Training...

The Coalition of CSOs on Migration Ghana (CCMG) and the Coalition of CSOs on Migration Africa (CCMA)  jointly organized a two-day hybrid Training of Trainers workshop focused on the African Union Free Movement Protocol (AUFMP) advocacy.

Adopted in 2018, the AUFMP seeks to facilitate the free movement of people across the African continent, but its implementation remains pending. The Protocol requires ratification by 15 African Union (AU) member states to come into force; to date, only four member states have ratified it.

The workshop brought together civil society organizations from 10 African countries, equipping participants with a deep understanding of the AUFMP as well as practical advocacy skills to promote its ratification. The sessions were led by resource persons from the African Union and seasoned advocacy experts, offering participants both theoretical knowledge and hands-on guidance.

Participants were divided into country groups to develop and present tailored advocacy plans based on the skills acquired during the workshop. These plans aim to strengthen national-level campaigns that will help secure at least 11 additional ratifications needed for the Protocol’s implementation.

In a moment of recognition, Ms. Joyce Abena Annan, representing our organization, received an award for her punctuality and commitment throughout the two-day event.

This workshop marks an important step in uniting CSOs across Africa to advocate for free movement, regional integration, and the socio-economic opportunities the Protocol promises to unlock.
