Uniting to Protect Boys: Highlights from Our Blue Umbrella Day Campaign 2025
As part of our ongoing commitment to child protection, Challenging Heights proudly joined this year’s global Blue Umbrella Day campaign to raise awareness about sexual violence against boys.
Our advocacy this year focused on education, capacity-building, and public sensitization—alongside a global push for the United Nations to officially recognize April 16th as International Blue Umbrella Day.
???? Capacity-Building Workshops: A Unified Approach
We hosted a series of targeted workshops, engaging key groups across society to better equip them in preventing and responding to sexual violence against boys. These sessions were designed to create safe, informed, and responsive environments at home, in school, in the media, and within government structures.
For Parents: Sessions focused on recognizing signs of trauma, building trust, and creating safe spaces for open communication at home.
For Students: Interactive discussions explored healthy relationships, the effects of abuse, and the power of speaking out.
For Government Officials: Training emphasized trauma-informed responses, proper case handling, and strengthening institutional child protection systems.
For Media Personnel: Journalists and broadcasters were trained on ethical and sensitive reporting on child sexual violence, with emphasis on protecting the dignity of survivors.
Through these combined efforts, we are nurturing a culture of collective responsibility where every adult is empowered to take action, and every child feels safe to seek help.
???? Radio Sensitization Campaign
To extend our reach beyond the physical workshops, we rolled out a radio sensitization campaign across local and regional stations. These radio discussions helped educate the public, spark conversations, and encourage listeners to become advocates for the protection of boys against sexual violence.
???? Help Us Make History: Declare April 16th as Blue Umbrella Day
Our campaign continues beyond the event itself. We are collecting signatures in support of our global petition calling on the United Nations to declare April 16th as International Blue Umbrella Day—a permanent symbol of our commitment to ending sexual violence against boys.
